Nam Sang Wai

Nam Sang Wai

Nam Sang Wai is often described as Hong Kong’s backyard oasis—a tranquil expanse of wetlands nestled between the Kam Tin and Shan Pui rivers. The area is a mosaic of fish ponds, mangroves, and grassy plains, offering a rare glimpse into the city’s natural heritage. Its ecological richness supports over 200 species of birds, including the endangered black-faced spoonbill, making it a haven for nature lovers and photographers alike.

One of the most iconic features is the wooden “wedding bridge,” a rustic footbridge framed by reeds and mirrored in still waters, often used as a backdrop for portraits. The hand-pulled ferry across Shan Pui River adds a nostalgic charm, preserving a traditional way of life that has all but vanished elsewhere.

Whether cycling along the flat trails, strolling through the white melaleuca groves, or simply watching the golden hour light dance across the water, Nam Sang Wai invites quiet reflection and a deeper appreciation for Hong Kong’s natural beauty.
