Tian Tan Buddha (The Big Buddha)

Tian Tan Buddha (The Big Buddha)

The Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, sits majestically on the Ngong Ping plateau. At 34 meters tall and composed of 202 bronze pieces, it is one of the largest seated outdoor bronze Buddhas in the world. Inspired by the Temple of Heaven in Beijing and Tang dynasty artistry, the statue radiates serenity and grandeur.

Climbing 268 steps leads to the statue and six surrounding bronze devas offering symbolic gifts, representing the Six Perfections in Buddhism. Inside the base are three exhibition halls—Hall of the Universe, Hall of Benevolent Merit, and Hall of Remembrance—featuring Buddhist relics and teachings.

Together with the nearby Po Lin Monastery, Wisdom Path, and Ngong Ping Village, the Buddha forms a spiritual and cultural sanctuary. Whether gazing up at the statue, meditating in silence, or wandering through the misty hills, this is a place where stillness and reverence meet.
