Law Uk Folk Museum
Located at 14 Kut Shing Street in Chai Wan, Law Uk is a mid-18th century Hakka house and the only surviving example of its kind in the area. Once home to the Law family, the house features a central courtyard, main hall, bedrooms, kitchen, and storeroom—typical of the “three-bay, two-hall” Hakka layout. Declared a monument in 1989, it was converted into a folk museum the same year.
Inside, visitors will find traditional furnishings, farming tools, and household items that recreate the daily life of a Hakka family. Exhibits also explore Hakka culture, architectural features, and the urbanization of Chai Wan, offering a grounded perspective on Hong Kong’s rural roots.
Though modest in size, the museum holds rich cultural significance and provides a rare glimpse into the city’s early village life and ethnic heritage.
