Kowloon Walled City Park

Kowloon Walled City Park

Located in Kowloon City, Kowloon Walled City Park sits on the site of the former Kowloon Walled City—once the most densely populated and ungoverned settlement in the world. After its demolition in the early 1990s, the area was transformed into a serene Chinese-style garden and opened to the public in 1995.

The park preserves key historical relics such as the South Gate ruins, the restored Yamen (administrative office), stone tablets, cannons, and ancient wells. The Yamen now houses exhibitions that showcase the Walled City’s architecture, daily life, and transformation, including a detailed scale model and archival photos.

Designed in the Jiangnan garden style of the Qing dynasty, the park features eight themed zones including the Garden of Four Seasons, Chess Garden, Mountain View Pavilion, and Chinese Zodiac Garden. It’s a peaceful retreat where visitors can reflect on the city’s layered past while enjoying elegant landscaping and traditional architecture.
