Kat Hing Wai
Kat Hing Wai is a historic Hakka walled village in Kam Tin, Yuen Long, built by the Tang clan during the Ming Dynasty (circa 1465–1487). The village is rectangular in shape, surrounded by sturdy grey-brick walls with watchtowers at each corner and a moat outside—designed for defense in ancient times.
Inside, the houses are neatly arranged, preserving the traditional layout. The iron gate at the entrance has a fascinating story: it was taken by British forces in 1899 and later returned in 1925, symbolizing a pivotal moment in Hong Kong’s colonial history.
Nearby attractions include the Kam Tin Mural Village and Red Brick House Market, offering a blend of heritage and creativity in the Kam Tin area.
