Hong Kong Railway Museum

Hong Kong Railway Museum

Located on Shung Tak Street in Tai Po Market, the Hong Kong Railway Museum was originally the Tai Po Market Station, opened in 1913. The building blends traditional Chinese and colonial architectural styles and was declared a monument in 1984 before reopening as a museum in 1985.

Covering around 6,500 square meters, the museum features historic locomotives, including steam engines, diesel trains, and vintage carriages—some of which are open for boarding. Exhibits trace the development of the Kowloon–Canton Railway, showcasing railway signage, signaling systems, and the lives of railway workers.

Interactive zones and outdoor displays make it a nostalgic and educational experience for all ages. While the main station building is temporarily closed for maintenance until mid-2025, the rest of the museum remains open to visitors.
