Hong Kong Film Archive

Hong Kong Film Archive

Located at 50 Lei King Road in Sai Wan Ho, the Hong Kong Film Archive is a five-storey facility spanning 7,200 square meters. Since its opening in 2001, it has served as a hub for preserving, restoring, and promoting Hong Kong’s cinematic heritage. The archive houses a mini-cinema, exhibition hall, resource center, collection vaults, and restoration labs.

Its collection includes over 5,600 film prints—some dating back to 1898—and more than a million related items such as stills, scripts, posters, soundtracks, and props. These artifacts chronicle the evolution of Hong Kong cinema and its cultural significance.

Beyond exhibitions and screenings, the archive hosts thematic showcases, seminars, and restored film presentations, offering a deeper look into the stories behind the screen. It’s not just a repository of film history—it’s a living space for cultural exchange and creative inspiration.
