Blue House

Blue House

Located on Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai, the Blue House is a four-storey balcony-style tenement built in 1922. It once housed the Wah To Hospital and a kung fu studio, reflecting the area’s medical and cultural roots. Its iconic blue façade was added in the 1990s, and the building was declared a Grade I historic site in 2009.

The revitalization project centers on the “Retain House and Tenant” concept, preserving both the architecture and its original residents. The site now hosts the “Hong Kong House of Stories,” where exhibitions, tours, and workshops share the everyday lives and memories of the local community. Together with the adjacent Yellow and Orange Houses, the Blue House Cluster received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2017.

More than a heritage site, the Blue House is a living neighborhood that invites visitors to connect with the city’s past and present through real stories and shared spaces.
