Tai On Building
Tai On Building, completed in 1968, is a residential-commercial complex in Sai Wan Ho known for its unassuming façade and vibrant ground-floor arcade. Nicknamed the “night market of Hong Kong Island,” it’s home to dozens of snack stalls and eateries that come alive after dark.
From crispy fried chicken and fish ball noodles to egg waffles and traditional desserts, the variety is staggering. Many stalls open in the evening, drawing crowds with their nostalgic flavors and affordable prices. Some vendors began as unlicensed hawkers and have since become licensed, reflecting the evolution of Hong Kong’s street food culture.
Beyond food, Tai On Building retains its 1960s architecture and community vibe, offering a glimpse into everyday life in the Eastern District. It’s not flashy, but it’s full of flavor—both culinary and cultural.
