Happy Valley
Happy Valley, nestled in Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island, was once a marshy rice-growing valley known as Wong Nai Chung. In 1846, it became home to Hong Kong’s first racecourse, which remains a lively venue today—especially on race nights when the area comes alive with lights and excitement.
Beyond the racecourse, Happy Valley is a serene residential neighborhood with tree-lined streets, heritage buildings, and a mix of traditional shops and modern amenities. It houses the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Racing Museum, sports grounds, and playgrounds. The area is also home to several cemeteries of different faiths, reflecting the city’s cultural diversity and layered history.
With its blend of heritage, leisure, and community charm, Happy Valley offers a unique slice of Hong Kong life.
